Youth Academy Review 2008

This Season’s Academy was as popular as ever with 85 children at Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15’s regularly attending the busy Thursday night coaching sessions.

This Year we ran 4 teams, one at Under 11, two at Under 13 and one at Under 15. Unfortunately this year the weather played it’s part and many fixtures had to be cancelled.

On a more positive note the Under 11 side finished 2nd in the League and won the League Cup (see below) against all the odds by beating the eventual League Champions in the final. The performance by the eight boys in the final was outstanding and was even more impressive when it became apparent that six of the players will still be eligible for the Under 11 squad next season. The future in this particular age group is very exciting and we are hoping that one or two of this team will go on to represent the County in the coming years.

The Under 13 A side showed considerable promise winning all of their League matches and ended up as League Champions. The under 13 B side were badly affected by the weather but showed vast improvement during the season. We have a number of very talented youngsters in this age group and a number of players have already attended trials to represent both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire next summer.

The Under 15 side faired even worse with the weather and only managed to complete a handful of matches. There are a number of players from this age group whom we expect will go on to form an important part of the senior teams over the coming years.

The future of Haverhill Cricket Club looks bright with many young talented players coming through the ranks and we look forward to the 2009 season.
